  She listened.

  We’ll be at the corner.  You remember the car?

  She did.

  * * * * *

  The white car was parked at the corner, where he said it would be.  A streetlight overhead.  Trees rustling in the breeze.  Other houses sleeping away the night.

  There were three in the car.  Burns and Charlie in the front.  Craig in the back.  She climbed in next to Craig.

  Did you tell them?

  She shook her head.

  Did you?

  No.

  His eyes on her’s, studying.

  Tell me.

  I told them nothing.

  Craig smiled.  Leaned forward and kissed her on the forehead.

  Good girl.  Good girl.
